GLP-1 Storage Guide

Proper storage protects your investment and ensures medication effectiveness. Here's everything Lagos users need to know about keeping GLP-1 medications safe.

Temperature Requirements

STORAGE SPECIFICATIONS

Unopened (refrigerated) 2-8°C (36-46°F)
In-use (room temp) Up to 30°C (86°F) for up to 28 days
Never freeze Discard if frozen

Before first use, keep your medication in the refrigerator. Once you start using a vial or pen, you can store it at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 28 days, or continue refrigerating—your choice.

Lagos-Specific Considerations

Lagos temperatures regularly exceed 30°C, making proper storage essential:

  • Power outages: During NEPA/PHCN interruptions, keep refrigerator closed. Medication stays cold for several hours in a closed fridge.
  • Backup plan: Consider a small cooler bag with ice packs for extended outages or if you don't have consistent power.
  • Vehicle storage: Never leave medication in a hot car, even briefly. Lagos traffic + sun = dangerous temperatures inside vehicles.

GENERATOR TIP

If you use a generator, ensure your refrigerator runs during outages. If not feasible, keep medication in a cooler bag with frozen ice packs until power returns.

Travel Guidelines

Short trips (1-2 days):

  • Use a small insulated bag
  • Include one frozen ice pack (wrapped to prevent direct contact)
  • Store in air-conditioned room upon arrival

Longer trips:

  • Use a medication travel cooler (available online)
  • Request refrigerator access at your hotel
  • For flights: carry in hand luggage with cooling pack (check TSA rules for international travel)

Within Lagos:

  • If going from home to office with medication, use an insulated lunch bag
  • Don't leave in the car during the workday
  • Refrigerate at destination if possible

What If It Gets Warm?

Brief exposure (under 30°C): No problem. This is within normal in-use conditions.

Extended heat (above 30°C for hours): Potency may be reduced. If medication was above 30°C for more than a few hours, contact us to discuss.

Frozen medication: Discard. Freezing damages the peptide structure irreversibly.

Visual changes: If medication becomes cloudy, discolored, or has particles, don't use it regardless of storage history.
